Macky Auditorium was built in the Neo-Gothic style, although it features different elements from around the world chosen by President Baker — CU’s president at the turn of the 20th century. The primary materials are sandstone and red tile, like most of the architecture around campus. While compatible with the overall campus architectural zeitgeist, Macky Auditorium stands out with its two massive towers and sprawling ivy. Read more of the history of Macky.
Macky was remodeled in 1986, with improved stage and rigging, new seating, custom carpeting, modern plumbing and an elevator. In 2011 the building underwent a $1.2M fire suppression system and life safety upgrades and the installation of a retrofitted cooling system.
